Interactive Brokers export for your Swiss tax statement

IBKR does not produce a Swiss eSteuerauszug. What it does produce is an annual Activity Statement, and downloaded as CSV that file already contains everything a statement needs. Nothing to configure, no Flex Query to build: choose the year, choose CSV, download.

You will need a computer for this. The download lives in the desktop Client Portal; IBKR's mobile app does not offer it. Reading this on a phone is fine — the upload page shows a code to scan from your computer when you are ready. Reading your file is free, and you see your full summary before anything is charged.

You will need

  • Activity Statement 2025, period Annual, format CSV — Performance & Reports → Statements

One download, nothing to set up

Most tools that read an IBKR account ask you to build a Flex Query first — an export you configure field by field, where leaving one checkbox unticked produces a file that opens cleanly and contains no income at all. We read the statement IBKR has already written for you. Three choices and a download.

Your annual Activity Statement as CSV

  1. Open Statements in Client Portal

Log in to Interactive Brokers on a computer and go to Performance & Reports, then Statements. The mobile app shows statements but does not offer the CSV download.

  2. Run the Activity Statement for the year

Next to Activity, click the run arrow. Set Period to Annual and choose the tax year. The default sections are the right ones; you do not need to customise anything.

Set Language to English, German, French or Italian — we read all four, and the figures are identical whichever you pick. Any other language keeps the same layout but renames every section into words we have not verified, and we will ask you to run it again rather than hand you a statement that quietly misses income.

  3. Choose CSV, then download

Set Format to CSV. Under advanced options, Cash Report Details can stay on Total Only — the other setting works too, it just makes the file longer. Run it, download the file, and upload it to us as it is.

What we read from it

The default Activity Statement includes all of these. IBKR leaves a section out when there is nothing to report in it, which is normal — the summary tells you when that happened.

Open Positions
Your holdings on 31 December. This is the Wertschriftenverzeichnis itself. If missing: IBKR leaves it out when nothing was held at year end. We say so in the summary.
Financial Instrument Information
The ISIN for every holding, which is how each one is matched to the official price list.If missing: Holdings are matched by name instead, which is less certain, and the summary says so.
Dividends
Every dividend paid during the year, with the security and the rate per share. If missing: IBKR leaves it out in a year with no dividends. We say so in the summary.
Withholding Tax
The foreign tax withheld on each dividend — the entire basis of the DA-1 reclaim. If missing: No reclaim can be computed. Withholding that cannot be tied to a dividend is reported, never dropped.
Cash Report
Your cash balance per currency at year end.If missing: Cash balances are left off the summary.
Corporate Actions
Splits, mergers and ISIN changes during the year, so we can name the holdings you should double-check.If missing: Nothing: the year-end quantity comes from Open Positions either way.

Uploads that will not work

An Activity Statement PDF
The commonest one by far. It is the same report we read, in a form software cannot read reliably. Run it again with Format set to CSV and upload that.
An Activity Statement in a language other than English, German, French or Italian
Same layout, every section renamed. English, German, French and Italian are all read and give the same figures; set Language to one of those in the run dialog and run it again.
A consolidated statement
Several accounts in one file. Each account needs its own tax statement, so run one statement per account.
A Flex Query of any kind
We read the Activity Statement instead, and it needs no query to be configured. Performance & Reports → Statements → Activity, Period Annual, Format CSV. It carries everything a Flex Query does.
A statement left on its default period
That covers the month to date, not a tax year. Set Period to Annual and pick the year explicitly.

What we cannot value yet

If your account holds any of these, we name them in your summary before you pay, and they will not be in the statement:

  • options and futures
  • warrants and CFDs
  • bonds and treasury bills
  • structured products
  • crypto
  • currencies held as an investment

Shares, funds and ETFs are what we do handle, which is most of what a Swiss private investor holds at IBKR.
