Tax statement · eSteuerauszug
The Swiss e-tax statement, from your broker's export
An eSteuerauszug is the electronic statement Swiss banks issue for the tax return: every security at its official year-end value, every dividend with the tax withheld, in the eCH-0196 format your cantonal software imports in one click. Foreign brokers do not issue one. We build it from the export they do give you — Interactive Brokers and DEGIRO today — and you see everything before paying.

Why the account statement range ends on 31 January, not 31 December
DEGIRO files every movement under the day it was booked, and a payment with a value date of 31 December is booked on the first working day of January. A statement exported to 31 December therefore misses the year-end distributions that belong to the tax year. Exporting to 31 January of the following year catches them; we keep only the rows whose value date falls inside the tax year, and the January trades and deposits in the file are ignored.

Does my canton accept it?
Cantons import the statement by different routes: Zürich takes the XML file, Vaud reads the barcode in the PDF. Your download carries both files, so the route your canton uses is in the package.
Questions people actually ask
What is an eCH-0196 e-tax statement?
The electronic tax statement (eSteuerauszug) Swiss banks issue for the tax return: every security with its official year-end tax value, every dividend and the tax withheld, in a standard file and a PDF with a barcode that cantonal tax software imports in one click. eCH-0196 is the open standard behind it, published by the eCH association.
Does my canton accept a statement that is not from a bank?
The standard does not require a bank. Your cantonal software re-checks every value against the official ESTV list on import, and the statement says on itself that it was produced by a third party and is not signed by a financial institution. We record on the canton page which imports we have performed ourselves; where we have not, the page says so.
What do I upload?
Interactive Brokers: the annual Activity Statement as CSV, and nothing else. DEGIRO: the account statement CSV for 1 January to 31 January of the following year and the portfolio CSV dated 31 December, selected together. The guide for each broker shows the exact clicks.
Can I see the result before paying?
Yes, all of it: every position with the source of its value, every payment, what is excluded from the DA-1 and why, and the reclaim figure. Payment only unlocks the files. There is a sample summary you can open right now.
What about the DA-1?
It is filled in from the same data. Swiss law grants no foreign tax credit unless the non-refundable foreign tax exceeds CHF 100 in total; below that we say so and suggest you do not buy a reclaim you will not receive.
I hold at both brokers. Do I need two statements?
One statement per account, so yes — the CHF 39 tier covers up to five statements in twelve months, any mix of accounts and tax years, and the next one is one click from your purchases page.
What do I do with the files afterwards?
Import the file your canton reads into its tax software (Zürich takes the XML, Vaud reads the barcode in the PDF), or print the PDF and let a scanning canton read the barcode, or hand both files and your broker export to your accountant. The delivery page opens on the route your canton uses.
